TATSUYA NAKATANI

SPIRAL JOY BAND

SISTERS THREE   (AJ’s Farewell Show)

Join ‘Sisters Three’ for our farewell performance on Saturday with Tatsuya Nakatani & Spiral Joy Band. This will mark our final show for the next 1.5(+) years as we say goodbye to our dear guitarist/wordsmith/weird-sister, Huckleberry Grimm, who is heading on to new adventures in Japan!!  Let us send him off together with good spirits!

We are absolutely thrilled to share the bill with Tatsuya Nakatani, one of our favorite performers.  With kindred respect towards the exploration of deep-meditations in sound, we prepare to journey inward into unexplored lands during his set this Saturday.  If you think you’ve experienced the entire energy potential of overtones and harmonics stored within a cymbal or gong… think again!  Come, be transported as Tatsuya calls those vibrations forth with his finely hand crafted bows, releasing the gong’s elemental powers!

LA HELL GANG (Santiago, Chile)
The Chilean fuzzed out, desert-psych trio, La Hell Gang, is graciously taking a detour from their first ever U.S. tour to visit Mickey’s Tavern and perform for YOU!!

DO NOT MISS!!

“A warm, melting conglomeration of shoegaze and heavy head drone psych, La Hell Gang have just loosed another platter of dystopian melancholy psychedelia on the world in the form of… Thru Me Again… for [the Brooklyn-based label] Mexican Summer.
Throttling back from 2010’s Just What Is Real for BYM Records, La Hell Gang have settled into a sound that’s quite reminiscent of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club when they were at the top of their game, mellow, yet harsh, and meticulously and intricately constructed… Raucous and spacious guitars paint a luscious landscape in which the bass and drums fill in the colors and bring the listener along for a demented technicolor trip across the worlds of sound.” -psychedelicbaby.blogspot.com

Opening the night is the ultra impressive experimental avant-jazz trio, BRENNAN CONNORS & STRAY PASSAGE, ft. Brian Grimm on strings, Geoff Brady on percussion, and Brennan Connors on saxophones and other toys.

WORT FM‘s DJ Dave 3000 will be providing a potentially face-melting musical backdrop for the evening!

In art, as in life, some things need no translation.” -The Baltimore Waltz – Carl – Scene XII

10/17 – 11/1  | The Baltimore Waltz

by Paula Vogel

@ The Bartell Theatre

a Strollers Theatre, ltd production

score and live music by BC GRIMM

(Madison, WI) Strollers Theatre is proud to present The Baltimore Waltz by Paula Vogel, co-directed by John Cooper & Scott Albert Bennett. The show runs October 17th through November 1st at The Bartell Theatre’s Evjue Stage in Madison. Ticket prices are $20 for general admission; $15 for seniors, students and Strollers members. Group rates of $15 per person for groups of 10 or more are also available. Call the box office at 608-661-9696, Tuesday thru Friday 2 PM – 6 PM.

In this comedic satire by Pulitzer Prize winner Paula Vogel, we follow Anna and her brother Carl on a European expedition. They strike out in search of adventure, hedonistic pleasure and the cure for her terminal illness, the fictitious ATD, Acquired Toilet Disease (the playwright’s metaphor for HIV).

A fantastical odyssey of the mind, with humor and heart, which suspends the apocalyptic catastrophe of losing a family member — a journey that celebrates life, art, sexuality, and the love of family. Paula Vogel won the Obie Award for this play.

Tickets may be purchased by visiting www.BartellTheatre.org.

In Honor:

Strollers honors the past 30 years of the fight to find a cure for HIV/AIDS. On April 23, 1984 the first diagnosis of the AIDS virus was announced. After three decades, this production will serve as a reflection of public perception and progress society has made in this time.  Strollers Theatre has established opportunities for donations to local HIV/AIDS programs and clinics at all performances. Talk backs after certain shows are requesting a donation amount that reflects this 30-year mark. This play was inspired by the tragic passing of Paula Vogel’s brother who had succumbed to the AIDS virus and we honor his spirit.

9/22 | Surrounded By Reality: Thollem McDonas & Sisters Three @ Audio For The Arts Studios

10622803_10152484717378598_6069226290890956706_nMon, 9/22 |  $10  7pm  @  Audio For The Arts Studios  +  Live Stream

SURROUNDED BY REALITY PRESENTS

THOLLEM MCDONAS

SISTERS THREE

(aka Brothers Grimm + db pedersen)

Join us for our reinvented concert series, Surrounded By Reality! This time, we welcome Thollem McDonas and The Sisters Three. Doors open at 7:00 pm for this 7:30 pm performance. Tickets are $10. Stream the concert live.

Thollem’s solo piano work is a constant flow full of nuances and collisions of his studies of 350 years of keyboard musics and those found in the ever-changing environments along his perpetual travels. “Thollem McDonas does what few can: He combines extreme imagination with terrific post-classical chops and an ability to communicate through melody. A fresh, disciplined avant-pianist with an attractively extreme viewpoint.” (Greg Burk – LA Weekly)

“An intense and virtuosic keyboard improviser” (TimeOut, NY), Thollem ”inhabits a world uniquely his own, rhythmically, harmonically and formally. A true original.” (Terry Riley)

“The Sisters Three are: my brothers, my sisters, my challengers, my keepers, my fellow mossy stones, my companions in chaos.” – Huckleberry Grimm

The Sisters Three (Brothers Grimm + db pedersen), ‘so wither’d and so wild in their attire, that look not like the inhabitants o’ the earth,’ – on this autumnal equinox performance – invite you to both celebrate Summer’s end and to encourage the return of Fall. Bring elements of Autumn, memoirs of Fall. By time The Sisters Three convene this September 22nd, the current embers of Madison’s cicada choir will be totally absent as will all the anxious energy spun by Summer’s zeal. Provided silent sanctuary, The Sisters Three will pay special homage to those courageous leaves which cast off chlorophyll pretensions and reveal the wide spectrum of their honest selves.

SNAKE ON THE LAKE FESTIVAL 2014

~ Featuring ~

Golden Donna (Mad)

”    Golden Donna’s return to Madison! Heady electronic music to balance your groove chakra. “… trippy club-crunched double helixes .. skybath of breezy balcony themes, trap-flecked trampoline electronics, pale dream-pitched slow-rides, and diamond-headed aerodynamics … There’s a consistent looking-glass curvature to the way he bends textures and percussion, giving them this lens flare plasticity, like a warped sheen of translucent plastic … Dense but dispersed … towards warmer climes.” via100% SILK    ” (*From SnakeOnTheLake)

~ Featuring ~

| Julian Lynch (Mad)

”    Beautiful experimental folk from Madison’s best. “New Jersey native Julian Lynch grew up playing with members of Real Estate and Titus Andronicus in the bedroom community of Ridgewood [NJ]. He’s continued his musical career at the University of Wisconsin, where he studies ethnomusicology during the day and records every instrument he owns (clarinet, bass clarinet, saxophone, Moog, iPhone) at night.” via NPR Music   ” (*From SnakeOnTheLake)
